More IMAX News

sorry I havent blogged in a while, honestly there has been nothing really exciting to blog about....UNTIL NOW.

Just like The Dark Knight shot some scenes with an IMAX camera, another big summer tentpole action movie will be following in its giant 70mm footsteps:
TRANSFORMERS 2: Revenge of the Fallen!

That's right, Michael Bay, possibly the best director of action on Earth, is going to shoot some of the action scenes in his new transformers movie with the IMAX camera. That doesnt mean that the film will be reformatted to fit IMAX screens like some movies do (Eagle Eye, Harry Potter, Spider Man). It means the movie will actually be shot with the same cameras they use to shoot IMAX only films. This means that that the action scenes will stretch to fill the entire 70 foot screen with a crystal clear beautiful image filled with computer generated robots fighting each other while intercutting scenes of Megan Fox's perfectly formed ass.

I love robots. I love Michael Bay. I love IMAX.

IMAX: Wave of the Future?

It was anounced today that The Dark Knight will be re-released on IMAX screens in January just at the peak of Oscar hype. The obvious reasoning behind this is so that the movie will get noticed for oscar noms. Hopefully for Heath Ledger (Best Supporting Actor), maybe for Christopher Nolan (Best Director)? This is awesome because it has already grossed $950 MILLION DOLLARS worldwide, so it wouldn't take much more to get it in the elite ONE BILLION DOLLAR GROSS clique.

Speaking of IMAX, it was announced today that Jon Favreau (director of Iron Man) plans to shoot the ENTIRE sequel in IMAX 3D. Whereas, the dark knight only shot the action sequences with IMAX cameras, this movie would be shot like that the entire way through...AND in 3D. This seems like the way that all summer action blockbuster movies should be from now on, eh?

Best. Deal. Ever.

What if Jason Bourne had an overweight and incredibly humorous sidekick with none of the fighting skills he had? apparently this question is the setup for a very important plotline of the new season of LOST starting in January. That's right, according to writer/producer Damon Lindelof, Sayid and Hurley will buddy up in an off-island story as partners working for Ben. I just want to see Hurley snipe someones head off and once realizing the repercussions of his horrid act , he would mutter "dude".

The "best. deal. ever" in my post title refers to my stop at Best Buy after work. I got off from work a little early today and realized that it's tuesday (the best day for deals at best buy and also the day that new BLU-RAY's are released). So I decided to stop at the store and see if anything exciting was released. Normally I would not purchase at Best Buy over Amazon because the latter usually has the same items for way cheaper. But I found an amazing deal. Kill Bill vol. 1 and 2 were both released on Blue-Ray High Def today, each one is $29.99 making a total of $60 dollars. I knew full-well that you could buy the movies together on Amazon for $50 dollars, so I merely just wanted to peruse rather than buy. But to my surprise there was more to it than meets the eye. Turns out, if you buy vol. 1 and 2 together (who wouldn't?) you get an additional 10 dollars off. So I thought, hm..same price as amazon AND I wouldn't have to wait for it to be shipped. Hoorah! So I took the dvd's in hand and started reading everything on the packaging and to my surprise...EACH ONE comes with a manufacturer's rebate of $10, meaning if i mail away my receipt, ill get an additional $20 dollars back. So in total I saved $30 dollars off of Best Buy's price and $20 off of Amazons price, not bad eh? oh BTW, if you dont own a Blu-ray player and high def tv, you NEED to invest in these items if youre a movie slut like me.

Welp, that pretty much wraps it up for today...oh, that's right. Marvel studios has stated that all those Will Smith/Capt. America rumors are completely FALSE! Thank the LORD! And now I leave you with an image of Captain America fighting the worlds greatest real villain.

its like this son, and like that son

OK so here it is, FINALLY, a new blog site! and its on blogspot too, which apparently is a thousand times better than my old blog site. So basically, this is my east coast blog, built mainly so that my west coast friends can keep in check with the life and times of mattmcg. My east coast friends can dabble too although i think they get enough of me. My old blog site is still up and it will RARELY be updated whenever i am on the west coast, hence: matt's west coast blog. you can still see that gem over at mattmcg.wordpress.com.

My life has changed drastically in the past 2 months. I now reside back at my home on Mistletoe lane in Levittown, NY. It's weird and different to be back in the place where i grew up yet pretty cool and comfortable. So it worked out kinda...

Now since i cant make updates about which celebrities i meet or anything like that, i will instead blog about movie news that i read. this will basically just be a way for me to spread some good movie news a whole 3 hours earlier than those west coast jerks. Here's a taste:

1) It's been reported that the role of captain america has been offered to WILL SMITH. not exactly the embodiment of capt america in the comics, but he certainly does get the entire country into theaters no matter what piece of garbage movie he makes ::cough:: wild wild west ::cough::

2) the EVIL DEAD musical is apparently being made into a movie by sam raimi...it's not exactly a new EVIL DEAD movie, but its a start, and may be pretty funny/interesting. If you havent seen any of the evil dead movies, you need to pull your head out of your ass and get out there and watch em. zombie camp at its best.

and finally...

3) Johnny Depp and Phillip Seymour Hoffman have been rumoured to be playing the Riddler and the Penguin (respectively) in the new Christopher Nolan "dark knight" follow up. Now these are just rumors at this point but those sound like pretty accurate casting notifications to me.
More movie gossip tomorrow!
